Know Me 2013 | New Look 6804

Sewing Time: 3hrs top | 4hrs skirt

Overview:
I’ve been meaning to make a skirt knit set since last year. Every since my bestie wore this set from Pretty Garden on Amazon on a girls trip. Of course I decided to make it rather than order it!
Pattern:
My original plan, that I talk through in my YouTube video, was to make a short sleeve top and a midi length skirt. I immediately knew I would use NL6804 for the skirt. I opted on View E but with waistband of D. However I did not check the measurements well because when I sewed up the XL it was too big and surprisingly floor length. You can see the process in the video, but the fix was to remove 2” from each side seam. As far as the length I kept it as floor length by sewing a double 1” hem. I’m 5’5” for the record.
I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted for a top, which was disappointing because knit top patterns are plentiful. Simplicity 9757 was in the running but I didn’t want the high neck. I considered a crop tee like True Bias Jesse or Closet Core Core Tee. In the end I choose Know Me 2013 by Brittany J. Jones because I’ve made it before and it had the close fit I was looking for. As you can see I ditched the sleeves and decided I could add a cardigan as we approach fall. I sewed an 18.
Fabric:
I was worried that this knit would be too lightweight for this set, but I think it worked. This fuchsia jersey was a 4 yard remnant from Wal-Mart that I snagged for $8 or $10 so if it hadn’t I wasn’t going to be too disappointed
Modifications:
Top-View B: I lengthened the hem by 2” and eliminated the hem band opting for a 1” hem instead. Also ditched the sleeves
Skirt - View E: I opted for View D waistband. I took out 4” at the waist.
Lessons Learned:
Always account for the weight of fabric and amount of stretch
