Simple, Stylish Skirt Set by Simplicity: S9757

Skill Level: ★★

Sewing Time: 2 hrs each piece

Pattern Rating: ★★★★

I made this set last year, but I still want to share it here on the blog.

Pattern:

I really grabbed this pattern for my daughter as she was really into these crop tops and maxi skirts with side slits last year. She already got her set, but I decided to make a set for me too! I sewed view A, with a mod, and view C.

The skirt is really simple it’s just two (maybe three can’t remember if there are separate front and back) pieces. It probably takes longer to hem all along the two side slits than the rest of the skirt.

The top is a tad tricker only because of the armhole bindings, but otherwise it’s simple.

Fabric:

I had this gray ribbed knit fabric in my stash. Sadly I can’t remember where it from, but if I had to guess, I’d guess Fine Fabrics in Atlanta (sorry they don’t have a website). It’s a light to medium weight knit that isn’t truly opaque, but it didn’t require a lining. It also has a ton of stretch, but more importantly it has good recovery. Recovery is the ability of a knit to bounce back instead of staying stretched out. This skirt really needs that so it doesn’t grow and look too big after time.

Modifications:

Added more elastic to the side seams of the top, I sewed view A because I wanted it longer, but not that long. Also more rouching hides the tummy, lol. I always have to adjust the hip curves on fitted skirts because I’m pretty straight up and down.
