Wrap Pants: Jessilous Patterns Thea
Overview:
Jessica teased the trousers quite a while ago on her Instagram page so when I saw the post to test them I immediately applied. These Thea Wrap Trousers are just so unique! I already love wrap skirts and dress so it only makes sense that I’d love wrap pants.
Pattern:
The Thea Wrap Trousers are high waisted trousers that feature a dramatic, overlapping wrap front detail. They feature a curved waistband and back darts which create a fitted waist that flows into a relaxed leg. The Thea Trousers can really stand alone as a staple trouser! I know because I tried them on with the sides basted before I added the wrapsband they looked amazing! I might make a basic pair, but the wraps really bring the drama so it wuld probably only happen if I’m short on fabric.
These may look complicated but they came together easily. If you’ve made any other slacks with an invisible zipper, you can make these. There’s just the additional step of sandwiching the wrap in the outer leg seam. Non elastic pants always take me a bit longer to sew because I usually need to make adjustments. This go round I cut the wrong size, I graded from a 18 hip to a 20 waist, so I had to take them in a bit which basically got me down to a straight 18. Additionally I did add about 1/2” to the back rise, but that’s typical for me on woven pants.
The pattern does not call for pockets, but I did add them. Jessica does link to a video tutorial on how to add in seam pockets. I worried that the added weight to the front would pull the pocket open but it doesn’t. Unfortunately, I did place them a bit low as there are no notches. I will definitely raise them next time, but they work on this pair.
Fabric:
I have had this stretch woven suiting for a while. It has a slight horizontal and but about 10% vertical stretch. I think I grabbed it to make a Simplicity jumpsuit but that never happened. Things have a way of working out though because the drape was perfect for the wrap.
Modifications:
I added inseam pockets.
Lessons Learned:
These would be great without the wrap feature as a staple, relaxed fit pant. Though I would move the zipper to the side or back.
