Cords - True Bias Ayla
Overview:
I’ve was a tester for the Ayla pants and this is my second pair, so you can probably tell I love them. This time I opted for a stretch corduroy from Sitka Fabrics and they are amazing for the cold temps we’ve been having.
Pattern:
I love these! During the test I sewed view B (see here) this time I opted for view A. Either view is a quick sew, but View A - with just 2 pattern pieces - sews up an hour or sew. The total construction is just five steps:
Sew front and back leg at inseam for each leg
Sew both legs together at the crotch curve
Sew the outer seam of each leg
Sew the elastic band and attach to the waist (stich in the ditch at the side and front and back seams)
Hem the pants
Fabric:
Fine Wale Stretch Cotton Corduroy in Nutmeg from Sitka Fabrics.
I was lucky to be gifted this stretch corduroy by Sitka Fabrics. This fine wale (21 wale per inch) is smooth like velvet with 25% horizontal stretch was a great choice for the Ayla pants. This is the color Nutmeg but it’s also available in Deep Pacific, Currant, Black, Wolf and Navy. If wide wale is more your thing Sitka Fabrics has 5 colors of that as well, though the stretch lower at 15%. Both are made from sustainable Better Cotton Initiative cotton (98% cotton, 2% Spandex)
Modifications:
I added 1/2” to the rise
Removed 3/4” from the hem
Lessons Learned:
Adding patch pockets to the back would solve my no pockets issue.
I may go back and add patch pockets to the back.
