My first Closet Core Crew Make: Marigold Sweater

Closet Core Crew Marigold

Simple top, easy to sew and wear

Overview:

Before Closet Core introduced their Crew subscription pattern they asked past pattern testers, like myself, to test out the program. Full disclosure: in return we were given a 1yr subscription. Usually not a big pattern subscription person as I have more than enough already, but I like their approach with classic yet simple patterns that even a beginner can sew. Out of the six they’ve released so far there’s only one that’s completely not my style.

Pattern:

The Marigold Sweater is a pullover dolman sleeve knit top. It offers two views, banded waist length or narrow hem hip length. As you would expect it’s an quick and easy sew as the sleeve is incorporated into the front/back piece. The only thing that may slow you down is the sleeve binding.

The dolman gathered sleeves make this top so cozy to wear. You can certainly dress it down with jeans like I’ve done here or pair with slacks or even a pencil skirt.

Fabric:

Your fabric choose will really play a role in the look of this top. A lightweight jersey or sweater knit will be very soft and flowly while a thicker double knit will be more structured showing off the full sleeve.

I used this navy and white striped double brushed poly knit. I love DBP as it has excellent stretch and is wrinkle resistant. The only down side is it’s mostly polyester so you will be warm in a top like this on a hot day. Go for jersey for spring/summer wear instead.

Also y’all know I love some stripes and this is the best project for stripes because there is only side seam matching to worry about.

All views require 1-3/4 yd or less which is also win this knit was a remnant piece.
