Wrap Knit Dress: UT Mathilde

Overview:

Y'all know I love wrap dresses! So when Brittani of Untitled Thoughts was looking for testers for her relaunch of her Mathilde Wrap I jumped at the chance. I actually whipped up a dress and a top, but you'll have to wait on the top as I haven't taken photos yet.

You know what you don't have to wait on? Getting your hands on the Mathilde Wrap!

Pattern:

The Mathilde Wrap is a knit true wrap design with no closures. It features eight sizes, two cup sizes, pockets, two sleeve options, three lengths and a optional ruffle. This pdf pattern comes with letter/A4 and A0 files that feature layering so you can print the size(s) you need.

I sewed the knee length dress with flutter sleeves in a Size D (I'm currently 42"/37"/45"). This dress comes together easily and the instructions were informative and encouraging as always. Brittani always does a sewalong post and it will be up on July 8th here. Also I have the inside scoop that there will be a series of hacks coming soon.

The fit is great! Don't believe me? Take a look at the other testers versions here. I didn't feel that the neckline was too low as can be the case with some wraps. Depending on your level of modesty you may choose to raise the neckline. I love that it is a true wrap with a waistband, something that not all wraps have. Knit dresses are one of the most comfortable garments to wear in my opinion and this dress is a great way to look pulled together and feel like you're wearing pajamas.

If you purchase your Mathilde pattern before July 8th you can save 15% using the code MATHILDEWRAP. You are also helping a great cause because 5% of every sale goes to Second Helpings ATL. Their mission is to reduce hunger and food waste in the Metro Atlanta area by rescuing healthy, nutritious, surplus food and distributing it to those in need.

Fabric:

This dress calls for a knit with at least 20% stretch so I used an very stretchy ITY knit. I've been holding onto this large scale floral ITY for years. It's Hancock Fabrics old! It was a 2-3/8yd flat fold piece I purchased pretty early in my sewing journey. I bought it with the idea to make another version of this duster/dress, but it wasn't enough yardage. So in my stash it sat for years waiting for just the right project and I think this was it.

Modifications:

I omitted the bias tape at the neckline and instead serged the raw edge and sewed a narrow hem using a zig zag stitch. This would have been a great time to use my coverstitch, but I still have issues with lighter knits like jerseys and ITY's.
