McCalls 8083: Atlanta Sewing Style Collab

The ladies of Atlanta Sewing Style collaborated with McCall Pattern Company to showcase their new Spring 2020 patterns. I chose McCall's 8083, which is a button front dress with a gathered skirt and raglan sleeves.Y'all know I love a pattern with options and this one offers two skirt lengths, 3 sleeve and an optional belt. I opted to sew View C because I was feeling the midi length as well as the longer flutter sleeves. I have larger biceps sometimes prefer a raglan sleeve to a set in sleeve that I may have to adjust.M8083-closewallAll these options make this a versatile dress for three season wear. View A is perfect for summer. Pair the short sleeve and knee length skirt with sandals and head out the door. Over tights and boots view B with it's longer cuffed sleeves would be perfect for fall weather. View C is pretty season less as it could be worn with a jacket and boots or with wedges as I have done.Telio Mojito Slub Linen Look Petals Print MustardI chose this petals print slub linen look in mustard by Telio from Fabric.com (our fabric sponsor). The content is actually 86% Rayon, 14% Nylon, but the slub effect makes it look more like a linen. It feels more like a rayon though and I don't mind because I quite like rayon fabrics like many challis and ponte.M8083OTSThough the construction of this dress requires darts, narrow hems, gathering and facings it is a relatively quick sew. There's nothing tricky and the directions are clear and easy to follow. The look of the finish garment would certainly lead you to believe it is more difficult to create than it truly is.M8083-beltI will definitely be making more of this dress. I love it in this big, bold graphic print but I also think it would work well in a solid or even smaller print like a cheetah. The pattern itself calls for crepes, challis or charmeuse and I would add light-weight linen, tencel chambray, double gauze or any other light weight fabric with good drape.M8083-backPattern: McCalls 8083Pattern Description: Semi-fitted dress, button front, raglan sleeves, A, C: flutter, B: long with elasticSizing: 6-14,14-22 I cut a 18C bodice and graded to a 20 at the waist.
