Gingham Off the Shoulder Dress - McCalls 7543

M7543GinghamfrontgifTypically I'm a selfish sewist (only sewing for myself and clients) but occasionally I create items for my family. My sister sent me a photo from Instagram of an gingham off-the-shoulder dress with peplum sleeve (sorry I can't find the photo) back in April. This is usually her way of asking for something. Since these dress are a pretty quick sew I agreed to make it for her.m7543_aI sent her the photo of McCalls 7543 envelope art and she selected the split sleeve over the peplum sleeve that was on the inspiration dress. Awesome as that was easier for me! I decided on the View D hem, again for ease for me!M7543GinghamsideI grabbed this gingham fabric from Joann's, it's a tad heavy for this dress but it works. Sadly I can't find this fabric on their website, but it came in black, navy and red - I believe.M7543GinghambackThe pattern was very straightforward, my mix of Views C & D is 5  pieces (front, back, 2 piece sleeve and pocket). In order to avoid sewing a narrow hem along the curved sleeve ties I lined the sleeves. I didn't take photos while doing this but if anyone is interested I will do a quick photo (or maybe video) tutorial on them as I will be making one of these for myself.M7543Ginghamside2Lining the sleeves was the only change I made, though next time I think I will open up the sleeve more like Brittany J. Jones did on hers. Hopefully my sister will love this even though she won't model for the blog so you're stuck with me!M7543Ginghamfrontcross
