Grey and Black Inspiration Joggers - Simplicity 2061

20150228_171655This is the second garment I've sewn from an inspiration pic (I still need to post the first). I ran across these really cute black and grey joggers on Instagram and took a screenshot. I just had to have them! I thought to myself these look simple enough to make so I set out looking for similar pattern. The closest thing I could find was Simplicity 2061 which looks more like a pajama bottom pattern. Obviously I had to alter the pattern some. I used View A as a base but on the front piece I drew a 45 degree from inside leg seam to the outside leg seam starting from the the View B hem line. I then drew a line 5/8 above and below that line to allow for seam allowances. I also pinched out the front pleats before cutting the front pattern piece (using the lower 45 deg line I dress). To add the pockets I used the pocket pattern piece for View C/D. I cut this piece out of the contrast fabric and also laid the pattern on top of the cut front fabric to cut the curved pocket opening out of the front fabric.S2061As far as assembling the pieces I followed this order1. Sew the bottom leg contrast piece to the main front leg.2. Sew the pocket facing to the front pattern pieces3. Understitch the pocket piece4. Sew the pocket piece together5. Sew the front and back pieces together6. Sew the crotch7. Add the waistband and leg bands (View B). I used the waistband as a casing for the elastic but eliminated the drawstring.imagePattern: Simplicity 2061Pattern Description: Learn to Sew Misses' knit pants in two lengths and woven pants in one length sewing pattern.Sizing: 6-18. Not really due to my modificationsWere the instructions easy to follow? I didn't follow them but yes.Likes: Easy to sewDislikes: I dislike the front pleats of the original pattern.Pattern alterations or any design changes made: View A without pleats, pockets from View C/D and leg bands from View B plus I split the front piece to achieve the color block effect.Would I sew it again? Probably not. I used M7061 for my next pair of joggers and preferred it.Would I recommend it to others? YesConclusion: Simple pattern that with alterations allowed me to achieve my inspiration pieces.Total Cost: $1.001.5 yd Grey mystery knit = $1 (remnant sale price).25 yd black ponte             = $0 (scraps from previous project)
