I’m So Excited: Fall 2023 Plans

If you want to learn to make your own digital sketches, watch here.

Y’all I am so excited about sewing for fall! Which is unlike me because I’m usually still holding on to summer makes. There were just so many amazing patterns that dropped by Know Me and the big five overall. Headed over to my YouTube channel to see my thoughts on the full releases. Not to mention the indie patterns like Made for Mermaid Winnie pants and upcoming Primose top. I’ve also “found” a new to me pattern company, Unfettered Patterns, that has a catalog of free patterns that’s AMAZING and I’m really geeked to make them.

That being said it’s been really hard for me to come up with my fall plans because when there are too many options I tend to feel overwhelmed. Also I’m trying to work on sewing my stash, but I have a particular color palette in my mind for this season that isn’t necessarily in my stash. Still I was able to come up with this vision board though I am telling you know these are very loose plans, I totally expect the swayed and some things may get pushed back to winter. I only added the garments that I had firm-ish fabric pairings for because I wanted a pretty board.

Outfits:

This first set doesn’t need to be worn together, but I really feel like they work.

  • McCalls 8003: This bodysuit was on my list last year. I had a top like this back in the 00s when I was clubbing in college. I have some rust ribbed knit from Fabric Mart that I think will be great for this bodysuit.

  • Chalk and Notch Isle Jeans: I bought this pattern when it dropped earlier this year, but think jeans are for fall as they are too hot to wear in the southern US during the Summer months. I always say I don’t sew jeans, but I am going to make these! I have some medium wash stretch denim that I’ve been hoarding for a while that I plan to use for these.

I’ve said more than once that Know Me 2054 is my fave fall patterns and it’s true. Marcia did THAT!

  • The sweatshirt will be made more than once as I need several. I definitely want a few solids, but I think first up will be a print, here I show a leopard, but I could see camouflage as well. I have a leopard scuba I think will work well and there’s a sweatshirt fleece I’m stalking.

  • I’m still on the hunt for perfect fabric type for these pants. It needs to be a bottom weight, but I’m thinking not too heavy as I want them to have a bit of flow due to the drawstring hem. I’m thinking khaki, army green and maybe black.

Nefertiti’s Know Me 2055 is also a fave from the latest drop.

  • For the bodysuit I’m debating a stretch pleather body with mesh sleeves with ribbed cuffs OR a knit body and pleather sleeves. Still not sure, but definitely in black.

  • I’m thinking similar for the bottoms, black ponte with pleather accents.

Beaute J’adore classic set, Know Me 2052, really caught my eye.

  • I love the blouse in a crisp white like Nikki wears on the envelope, but I’m showing it in a striped linen I grabbed from Joann.

  • Here’s another pair of jeans, for these I’ll be grabbing some new fabric. I’m thinking a dark denim or maybe even corduroy.

Duanna’s activewear set, Know Me 2051, set will hopefully get me back in the gym.

  • I used a blue and green abstract knit that I had for some leggings I never made. I sewed both the bra and the leggings live on TikTok for Black Sewing Network Know Me Fall Pattern Series. The BSN community will be sewing all of the Know Me fall patterns so be sure to check the lineup so you don’t miss a live.

Dresses:

  • Know Me 2050 - I love view B of this pattern! Aaronica mentioned that she had another pattern planned for the fall drop, but this the one that was released and I think it’s great. I have a grey polka dot sweater knit from Walmart that I had in my stash that I think will make this dress a super cozy wear.

  • McCalls 8434 - As soon as I saw this pattern I knew what fabric I wanted to use, a houndstooth plaid, liverpool knit that was supposed to become an Annie Cardigan (by Mimi G) last fall. I’m happy I didn’t get around to at as I would much prefer it to become this dress with some black trim accents.

Tops:

Tops are definitely at a deficiency in my wardrobe so I plan to fix that this season.

  • McCalls 7722: This pattern has been in my stash for quite a while and I’ve never sewn it. I have several pieces of gray sweater knits and I think that will make for good basic neutral with a bit of flair.

  • Closet Core Cielo: I’ve made this top before out of a bold print (that I’m just now realizing I never blogged) and I loved it! So I plan to make it again with a abstract animal print rayon I purchased from Melanated Fabrics.

  • Close Core Crew Graphite: I like this both as a top and a dress. I show it here in burgundy, but I’ll try to use whatever knit I already have in my stash.

There are so many other patterns from recent drops and prior years that I want to get to as well, but like I said above there’s only so much time! I’m excited to see how much I can get to.

I’m also excited to see what y’all are making! What’s on your to sew list for fall? Let me know.
