Early Spring Patterns

Know Me, McCalls and Simplicity have recently released their Early Spring patterns. I'm guessing we'll have to wait until Spring for Vogue, Butterick and Burda. Here are my thoughts...

McCalls

Overall this is a great release from McCalls. These three are definite "to-buys" for me.

  • M8369/8368 - As soon as I saw this I thought "This would be an awesome skate outfit". I can see making and rolling in each view. This would also make a great lounge set.

  • M8360 - I LOVE this pattern! I've had a denim jumpsuit in my head for a while that I want to frankenpattern, but have never sat down to pull it together. This is the not the vision, but it's the closest single pattern to what I want. Not sure about the smocking as I've never done it, but it can't be that hard.

  • M8362/8361 - I have so many dress patterns because they are my favorite piece to sew, so I've been trying not to add more. However this pattern is making it hard as it's a wrap dress with a cut out!

These three are good but I wasn't blown away.

  • M8364 - I always say I need more tops and this one is nice I just don't think it's my style. I see others making it though.

  • M8366/8365 - I like like this fitted jacket and it would be perfect for a walk on a chilly evening or morning. The corset style allows for colorblocking which is fun, but I think I have enough hoodie patterns.

  • M8370 - This is a great classic skirt suit pattern, with a Chanel vibe. If I didn't already have a similar pattern I would bump this to the "to-buy" list.

Know Me

First of all I'm so excited about Know Me! I just love that sewists who I follow, admire and call friends have created patterns in their style to share with us.

I'm doing better about picking separates.

  • ME2015 - I have not attempt a corset top, quite frankly because I feel it will be a fitting nightmare, especially at my current size. So I'm excited about this pattern as I'm sure Aaronica has designed this for the larger gals. The skirt is cute too.

  • ME2022- I LOVE the top, it is just as unique as Nefertiti. I'm not sure I'd wear the skirt, but I want to tackle the top for sure.

  • ME2013 - Apparently I love a crop top and this short sleeve top seems perfect for spring. I also like this knit version of a side button skirt.

I want these, I'm just not sure I need them.

  • ME2020 - I love a wrap dress, but I have plenty of wrap dress patterns. I'm also unsure about the pockets, but don't I always complain when they're aren't pockets...

  • ME2016 - Again I love dresses, but I tend to shy away for voluminous dresses. It's beautiful, I'm just not sure I'd wear it. That's a lot to iron LOL

  • ME2017 - I purchased Scorpio's previous bomber pattern and I really like this pullover. This is really the perfect windbreaker pattern, I'm just not sure I'll make a windbreaker...

Simplicity

Simplicity was lackluster for me, but of course Mimi's are on point.

  • S9701 - Even though this pattern reminds me of the old M6886/ new 8058 the new square neck gives it refreshed look. The back center seam also allow for easier fitting adjustments.

  • S9700 - I don't typically go for the vintage patterns but I like this vintage jumpsuit.

  • S9714 - The more casual side tie blazer is unique and stylish and Mimi's pants pattern usually fit well so I'll grab this one.

These two are the only other ones who even slightly grabbed my attention.

  • S9729 - The full slip is nice as a nightie/sleep gown, but I feel I could find a free version or possible already hve one. I'd never use the half slip

  • S9713 - I want to like this rain jacket as it's different, more of a mix of a raincoat and a poncho, but I'm not sure I do.

So what do you think? Which ones are you grabbing and which are you passing on?
