Flowers and Ruffles: Butterick 6677
Overview:
Butterick 6677
I have been wanting to make this dress for a while as I have (or rather had) a very similar RTW dress which I've "outgrown" (read: I gained many pounds and it no longer fits). I just keep waiting for the perfect fabric. I really had planned to copy the RTW (and the pattern image) and wanted to use a yellow rayon or maybe gauze, but this floral rayon challis is gorgeous and I decided it was right for B6677.
Butterick 6677 is a flirty sundress that features a tank bodice (with or without ruffle detail), elasticized waist with sash, slant pockets and both a knee and maxi length. Like I mentioned I've wanted to make view A for some time but I think I'll also try view C as I don't have any maxi dresses in my current wardrobe.
The dress lacks a zipper and instead uses a loop and button closure (a hook and eye would work too) which made it a great sew for me as I'm return to sewing after a hiatis. Zippers don't take me too long, but this is quicker with less room for a silly error. The trickiest part for a new sewist is hemming the curved edges of the ruffles as it can be bit tricky.
Fabric:
This fabric is a gorgeous rayon challis abstract floral print with a colorful fall-ish color palette from Melanated Fabrics. I grabbed this during their opening weekend as a remnant because the fabric flew off the roll. I only had 2 yards but that was just enough to squeeze out this dress.
I love rayon and this challis is no differently. It sews nicely and drapes beautifully. It's really a great option for any drapery, flowy dress or top.
Modifications:
None
Summary:
I really love this dress and still plan on making a yellow one.
