Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo Romper- McCalls 8047

One of my sewsistas that I meet at "Sewing Camp" (Mimi G's Sewing Conference) always comments on how quickly I seem to sew my projects. So fast in fact that she calls them "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo" projects because it must be magic like Cinderalla's fairy godmother creating her gown right before the ball. It always tickles me!!! Well this project is one of those projects that you can sew the night (or morning) before an event.

Fabric:

This fabric is left over from a Fabricista project I completed last year (Vogue 8738 Faux Jumpsuit). It's a double brushed poly (DBP) that has since sold out. DBP is knit that has 4 way stretch and has a buttery soft brushed finished on both sides. Since it is typically 95% polyester it doesn't breath well, but I decided to use it for the summery pattern anyway.DBP is a thinner knit so it may be trickier to sew for novice sewists. Thankfully it is not slippery or delicate so it can be achieved.

Pattern:

M8047 one of McCalls Create Your Own Look patterns, which means all of the bodice views can be combine with of all the pants views allowing you to be the designer. Now this is true for almost all patterns (especially those made by the same brand because they tend to be based of the same sloper), but here it is deliberate. These patterns are great for those who are new-ish to sewing and don't yet trust their "frankenpatterning" skills.I sewed this pattern during a zoom happy hour call, so it's definitely a one evening project. There are only 4 pattern pieces (front bodice, back bodice, front pant, back pant) and everything comes together easily, just make sure to cut the bodice pieces right sides up. The instructions are clear.I will be wearing this romper all summer, even if we can't leave the house because it's just that comfy. I'm already working on the second one using that polka dot lining that will now be the bodice.I cut a size 16 though based on the finished measurements I should've gone up to the 18W. Because the finished measurements aren't listed on the site and I ordered the pattern from McCalls.com I couldn't check the measurements on the tissue. Typically I do sew a 18 for bottoms, but I also know that the women's patterns are base of a different model so I went for the misses size. I did add about 1/2" to the waist of the bodice and shorts grading from the bust and the hip respectively. Since this is a knit pattern it worked out just fine.

Modifications:

Because this fabric is a remnant from a previous project I didn't have enough to cut the bodice lining. Instead I cut the lining from a piece of polka dot rayon spandex in my stash. After sewing up the lining fabric I realized it was cute all by itself and decided to use it for another version of M8047. At that point I referred to the instructions and realized the only reason the lining was required was to create a casing for elastic at the neckline. In my opinion the elastic was needed as the look is designed to be one shoulder and I didn't care if it wasn't snug. Add that to the fact that DBP doesn't breathe well and I just omitted the lining. I finished the neck and armholes with a narrow zig-zag stitch.I also omitted the elastic at the waist because it wan't necessary for me. The fabric is quite stretchy and I sewed the romper to be quite fitted so the waistline doesn't sag. However I would add the elastic if I was sewing either of the pants views to prevent slippage due to the added weight the length would add.Pattern Description: Strapless, off shoulder, wrap front and back bodices.
