Multi Colored Chevron Palazzo Pant - M6515

wpid-2015-09-03-11.05.58-1.jpg.jpegIf you follow the blog then you know these loose fitting polyester pants are a departure from my usual sewing. If you look around the blog you can likely tell that I love dresses, specifically fitted dresses. Because of that I typically work with knit fabrics. Even before I started sewing most clothing I purchase had some sort of stretch.wpid-2015-09-03-11.06.18-1.jpg.jpegFor some reason though I really wanted in on this palazzo pant trend. Especially after I saw a few pair in Target when I was supposed to be buying orange juice or something. I believe the ones in Target were knit but after googling "DIY Palazzo pants" I saw that both Tabitha from Cheap But Chic and Ericka Bunker had used M6515 to achieve this wide legged look. Turns out I already owned M6515 (though I had purchased it for the boot cut view) and decided I would give it a try.wpid-2015-09-03-11.06.11-1.jpg.jpegNone of the fabric in my stash would really work for the look I wanted so I had to go to Hancock to look for a polyester or rayon print. I decided on this colorful chevron print after making myself put a few black and white prints away (here, here, here). My black and white obsession is out of control so I was glad I could curb it this time.wpid-2015-09-03-11.06.08-1.jpg.jpegThis pattern sewed up really quickly. I did add my usual BBA (big booty adjustment) of adding 1.25" to the back crotch. I cut a size 18 which was a little loose from the crotch to the waist. I'm not sure if I should cut a 16 next or stick with the 18 and just increase the seam allowance through the waist and hip. This time I took in the extra fabric at the front and back center crotch seams. I also forgot to shave off some fabric at the top of the front leg pieces, which I usually do to compensate for the extra fabric added to the back crotch, this caused the front waistband to sit high and there to be some extra bunching.  Next time I will definitely lower the waist band as I don't care for the high-waisted look on myself. Also though I'm on 5'5" I could only do a 3/4" hem and that was to wear with flats. I will need to add  3" to wear with heels.wpid-2015-09-03-11.06.15-1.jpg.jpegLet me take a minute and talk about my unusual backdrop for today's pictures. I wanted pictures in front of the brick exterior wall of this building, but as my friend/photographer and I approached this building she noticed this structure, which is actually a spinning top. She insisted I take pictures with it as I matched, lol! As I approached it I realized that I could actually get in it and it spinned. How interesting?! I'm not sure why it was there but it was fun to have a prop.wpid-2015-09-03-11.06.05-1.jpg.jpegPattern Description: Pants have contour waistband, side zipper, narrow hem and width variations.
