Black and White Lattice Colorblock Dress - Simplicity 1156

wpid-2015-07-06-11.56.31-1.jpg.jpegThis is my first time working with an Amazing Fit pattern from Simplicity and I might be in love. I actually purchased S1156 because it was similar to V8995 which I already owned but had been too afraid to cut since I am frougie and Vogue patterns are "expensive". In my defense $4.99 is 5 times as much as $0.99 which is how much I paid for the simplicity pattern. A dollar wasted if I cut the wrong size was acceptable to me. I say that to say I'm cheap frougie but we knew that and that I didn't really concern myself with the fact that it was an amazing fit pattern.wpid-2015-07-06-11.56.29-1.jpg.jpegIf you are not familiar with Simplicity's Amazing Fit patterns these patterns come with different pattern pieces for a B to DD cup (for dresses) and different pattern pieces for slim, average and curvy fits (for dresses and pants). In short these patterns are designed to help you with custom fitting the garment for your body type, especially if you have problems fitting garments with garments straight out of the envelope. I definitely think the pattern is successful in aiding with fit. I can't vouch for it but I would think if you are blessed in the bust or hip/booty area that these patterns could help you a better fit with little to no adjusting.wpid-wp-1436272820656.jpegI cut the pattern pieces for a B cup and an Average fit based on the guidelines in the pattern instructions. I did still do my typical size grading, this time a 10 at the shoulders/bust, 12 at the waist and 14 at the hips. I think next time I will go with a 12 at the hips if I'm working with ponte because I like a fitted skirt.wpid-2015-07-06-11.56.35-1.jpg.jpegI believe the black ponte was some I had left from a Fabric Mart flash sale when it was just $3.99/yd. The black and white lattice print ponte is from Girl Charlee. I originally wanted to make the dress (using that Vogue pattern) with black and houndstooth ponte, but when I received this lattice pattern ponte I decided to try it instead.  My husband said I should have reversed the solid and the print on this dress so I may sew this again with the houndstooth where the black is and black where the lattice print is, we'll see.wpid-2015-07-06-11.56.29-1.jpg.jpegPattern: Simplicity 1156Pattern Description: This Amazing fit Dress for miss and miss plus has option of contrast panels and sleeve lengths.
